Just after Thanksgiving, on the day of the closing for 1902, I happened to stop to pick up lunch at Fresh Market which is about a city block away from Grove at Grand Bay. As I departed the door of the deli, two New Yorkers on holiday froze in their tracks pointing across the street at the top of Grove at Grand Bay. "OMG, how cool is that??!!!," shouted one while tugging on the arm of the other. "It is impossibly beautiful, but who would ebber design that wow-wow-wow whatever???!!!" And the other finished with, "and who would ever be lucky enough to live in those units at the top?" which nicely brings me to the point of this discourse, ...could be you!
Soaring above Sailboat Bay along the shore of Coconut Grove, Miami's oldest historic district and today home again to its finest schools and dining, is the south tower of Grove at Grand Bay. Its twisting stack of 11' high and miles wide glass cubes rises and rotates 22 stories above the trees elegantly shouting the arrival of mega-award-winning "star architecture" to Miami's most livable district. Bjarke Ingles, Danish wunderkin, has quite literally put the City on notice that sleepy Coconut Grove has officially woken up. The choice to live in grandest elegance, while in shorts and a Lacoste shirt, has arrived BIG time. (BIG is Bjarke Ingles Group...)
At the top of this tower are four floors which exactly match the compass setting for true north, east, west, and south which offers units on the south side, such as 1902, full forever views looking down Biscayne Bay all the way to the Florida Keys. Every day provides daytime views that are amazing and nighttime views that are beyond extraordinary. Thanks to a strategic turn in South Bayshore Drive, 19 floors below, this tower is sited way south of everything east of it on this side of the street providing unobstructed viewlines up Bayshore to downtown, Miami Beach,Virginia Key, key Biscayne and the dark blue of the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Below your feet laps one of America's two finest sailing bays which is why the USA Olympic Sailing Center is just next door to the Coral Reef Yacht Club. The Bacardi Cup celebrates its start and ending here and miles of green paths of the bike system cross below you. Just a block or two away are pre-K through high schools of every very high academic flavor and the streets between them are dotted with people walking (imagine this, walking!) to reach great restaurants, shops, and movies. It's a wonderful life, which is why Miami started here and grew up with its big brother Pan American Airlines who flew seaplanes to Europe and South America from what is now Miami's City Hall just across the park on the waterfront. The bliss of this love affair with Pan Am protects this whole zone on the other side between you and the water with a very serious historic zone with a 50' max on anything that doesn't look like an existing Pan Am ticket office or a seaplane hanger. Too bad the US government didn't love its flag carrier as much as Miami did....
Let's talk about the apartment now that you have a sense of its prime location. There are less than 100 apartments in the project and the south side has even less than the north so exclusivity is first and foremost, the proper buzzword. After your guests are cleared and warmly welcomed, they will rise 19 floors to your the private foyer of your residence. Once inside, the first thing everyone does is go to the windows in the living room and gasp at the views. All around and in every room are 11' glass walls floor to ceiling... All the mod cons- the modern conveniences- are here including a Snaidero kitchen that looks like it was just crated up in Milan with all the Miele appliances you could hide on the sides away from the windows. It has a gas cook's kitchen with the obligatory island, coffee marker, wine cooler, etc etc etc but with views of the bay and islands reserved for soaring flamingos. On the east side facing Miami and the Atlantic is one masterful master and a bath with Bjarke designed tub and countertops adjacent to a large glassed in shower. Unless I'm missing something here, for the life of me I don't get why the outdoor BBQ is located just next to the glass shower which is why most residents move it over to the kitchen. Do the Danes BBQ in the shower? Little wonder summer is so important to that culture, but I digress. The beauty of this floor plan is that you get the best views from the master and it's even better at night.... and all the other bedrooms are over on the other side of the apartment! For the guests you love, there is even one bedroom with a south facing shower looking all the way to the Florida Keys. Seriously, though, the guest might refuse to leave the shower... Other guest bedrooms unfold around the corner providing privacy for everyone. A "media" room is conveniently placed next to the laundry and full bath.
Downstairs for owners is a killer gym and spa, private dining room open only to you and your guests, great lap pool, and swimming pools to compliment the ones on the rooftop that are for fun as opposed to working out. For 1902, there is a private two car garage with a locking automatic door inside the main garage to park your toys.
Four bedrooms, 5.5 baths, nearly 4000 SF under air conditioning, and supremo supremo location overlooking Biscayne Bay is offered at: $5,995,000
